A hidden gem in the vintage watch world. This late 70s Tudor Prince Oysterdate is a perfect example of the brands rich history and ties to its parent company, Rolex. This timepiece is subtle yet stands out with a 34mm Oyster case made by Rolex, aswell as the original Rolex signed crown and caseback. The watch sits on a light and comfortable original 1978 Tudor bracelet.
Inside the case sits the Tudor calibre 2824, based on the ETA movement 2824-2. This is one of the most reliable and widely serviced automatic movements ever built, which means parts and servicing remain straightforward and inexpensive. This 40+ year old timepiece is running very well and was last tested by a local watchmaker a couple months ago. It's keeping great time at ±11 seconds a day — comfortably inside the ±12 seconds standard for this calibre when new. No service should be needed for movement or function for at least 2–3 years.
Condition is honest vintage: the caseback, acrylic crystal, and bracelet present very well in terms of originality for the age. There are light scratches on the acrylic crystal from wear over the decades, but these can be buffed out or replaced at a relatively low cost (about $60). The dial has aged to a warm champagne tone, with light spotting and stunning patina. A true collector's item, priced in the low-to-mid $2,000 range.
